Now, if these place names aren't romantic reflections of a pioneer-settled landscape then I don’t know what is. As a child, this scene formed a lasting image of the region's natural setting - raw and so very hot and dry. As a 10-year-old kid, looking across the lake, I so badly wanted to go explore that Island - it wasn't until just after high school that I got the chance.
