Common in most areas of North America, the Chokecherry has the dubious reputation of being both sour and bitter at the same time. Perhaps that is the trade off for its high levels of antioxidant pigments. I remember, when I was young, having my Mom offer me a small handful and encouraging me to ‘just pop them in your mouth. You’ll love them.’ Of course I did as I was told and immediately spit them out!!! To this day I can still see my Mom continuing to eat them and telling me how she loved them!
